According to the AKC, a miniature dachshund tops out at about 11 pounds, although many can be even smaller.
By comparison, a standard doxie falls between 16 and 32 lbs.
These pint-sized versions also stand at just around 5-6″ tall, compared to 8-9 inches for standard Dachshunds.
If you’re having a hard time picturing what 6 inches looks like, grab a dollar bill.
They’re about 5″ long, so turn it on it’s side and stand it up. That’s how big your mini dachshund will get!
In other words, super teeny tiny (and, apparently, they can get even smaller since there’s a “toy” version, too).
So, what exactly is the best crate size for a miniature dachshund, keeping their super-petite frame in mind?
According to I Love Dachshunds, a 24″ model is your best bet, although you can also get away with a 22″ model.
It’s room enough for your tiny pup to move around, stand up, turn around, and sleep.
However, it’s not quite so roomy that she’ll create her own private bathroom section in it.

I know I always start with this one (you’ll notice that if you’ve read my other crate posts), but it really is a stellar choice.

Recommendation
As I’ve said in the past, I actually have this one for my larger dog. It is challenging to assemble the first time around.
Once you get past the initial assembly, though, it’s a breeze.

Actually want something with a few more bells and whistles? This is a fantastic starter kit!
It’s another one that appears on all of my lists, and for a good reason.

Cons
- Doors aren’t removable
- Bed won’t hold up for long if you have a chewer
- Warranty is only good for defects, not damage that your dog causes
- Cover isn’t waterproof
Recommendation
Honestly, the bells and whistles are the only thing that makes this one different from the Amazonbasics crate.
So, ask yourself if the extra $20 is worth it for those extras.
If your doxie is a chewer, that bed simply won’t hold up. If he’s not, though, it’s worth it, I think!
3. Veehoo Folding Soft Crate
While I rarely recommend folding soft crates for big dogs, they’re not a bad choice for tiny pups.
My favorite is this one by Veehoo. Let’s see why.

Recommendation
I would never recommend a soft crate for chewers, but if your dog is beyond that stage, I like this one because of it’s open design.

It’s pretty much impossible to find a chew-proof soft crate, and mesh is mesh, so it’ll never be tear-proof.
So, if you’re looking for an indestructible crate for a miniature dachshund, this isn’t it.

While I tried to give you a variety of options, I really think that one of the first two is your best bet for crate training.
Once your miniature dachshund gets used to being in a crate, then you can go with one of the soft-sided options.
